Train cars trivia
Tips01 The secret behind the body color
The color of the car body has been unified in maroon color (brown system) since its opening in 1910. Ordinary maroon is a brown color derived from chestnuts (marron), but Hankyu Railway uses a slightly darker red bean color or a color closer to chocolate color as "Hankyu maroon".
Behind the unchanging maroon color lies not only advances in paints and coating technology, but also the advanced skills of the people involved. For example, the preparation of the pre-painting groundwork, which is done to repair damaged paint, the so-called putty. This process is crucial to make the surface smooth and uneven, and it is only when the putty is evenly applied that the car body shines beautifully like a mirror surface.
Tips02 Attention to every detail of the interior
In the early days of the railway service, wood was used for the train interior. Even after wood was replaced by iron to make the train interior fireproof, wood-grain patterns were printed on the iron plates. After that, when efforts were made to make the interior lighter, woodgrain patterned aluminum resin veneers were used to create a warm atmosphere inside the railcars. This attention to every detail of the interior is also part of our tradition.
Tips03 Seat features
The seats in the green color called golden olive color are a distinctive feature. Angora goat wool is used for the seats, and we have paid special attention to the texture. The seats also have springs inside, making them very soft and comfortable to sit on. We try to keep the seats as clean as possible by replacing all the seat fabrics every few years.
