Train car introduction

5300 series

5300 series

The 5300 series was introduced in 1972 as a mass-produced air conditioned train for the Kyoto Line.

This railcar was built with the same body dimensions as the 3300 series railcars with the through service with the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line in mind. However, the main motors have been strengthened, and each car is equipped with two pantographs to improve current collecting performance.
As for the railcar remodeling work, the rollsign devices have been installed since 1986, and the thin ceiling fans called rolly fans have been installed to improve the effectiveness of air conditioning. After that, in 1989, emergency communication devices were installed to enable direct communication between passengers and crew, and wheelchair spaces have been installed since 1994.

Special notes

Enlargement of the rollsign devices

In the installation work of the rollsign devices that have been carried out since 1994, the rollsign devices on the front have been enlarged to improve visibility.

Vehicle number

Until now, the vehicle numbers for the Kyoto Line vehicles have been assigned starting from 1 (e.g., the vehicle numbers for the 3300 series trains are from 3301). However, starting with the 5300 series, the numbers will be assigned starting from 0 (e.g., the vehicle numbers for the 5300 series trains will be from 5300), making the vehicle numbering system the same as the system for the railcars for the Kobe Line and Takarazuka Line.
