Train car introduction

5100 series

5100 series

The 5100 series was introduced in 1971 as a mass-produced railcar equipped with an air conditioner.

Since there were few railcars equipped with air conditioners when the series was first built, some of the 5100 series trains were operated on the Kyoto Line to ensure equal distribution of air-conditioned trains across the Kobe Line, Takarazuka Line, and Kyoto Line. However, with the introduction of the 5300 series air-conditioned railcars on the Kyoto Line, the 5100 series trains were reassigned to the Kobe Line and Takarazuka Line.

Special notes

Vehicle Model Name of the 5100 Series

The vehicle model type of the 5100 series was initially planned to be the 6000 series. However, since it was intended for operation on the Kyoto Line, it was considered to assign the model type 5000 series to avoid confusion with the 60 series vehicles (numbered 6000) of the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau (now Osaka Metro). However, since the 5000 series trains had already been built and no numbers were available in the 5000 range, the model type 5100 series was assigned.
